Float. Heat. Cold. Restore.

Frequently Asked Questions

New to floating, sauna or cold therapy? We know you might have a few questions before your first visit. Here are some of the things we're asked most often.

FLOAT THERAPY

What is float therapy?

Float therapy is a deeply relaxing experience where you float effortlessly in warm water containing a high concentration of Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate).

The buoyancy of the water supports your body and creates a feeling of weightlessness, giving you the opportunity to slow down, switch off and enjoy some uninterrupted time for yourself.

I've never floated before. What should I expect?

Don't worry — we'll talk you through everything when you arrive.

You'll have your own private float room with a shower and float pod. After showering, you'll step into the pod, get comfortable and simply allow yourself to float.

There's nothing you need to do or achieve during your session. Some people completely switch off, some meditate, some think, and some simply enjoy the quiet.

Your first float is all about finding what feels comfortable for you.

Do I have to close the lid?

Not at all.

You are completely in control of your float experience. You can have the lid completely open, partially open or closed — whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

What if I'm claustrophobic?

You are never locked inside the pod and you can open the lid at any time.

If you're unsure about enclosed spaces, you're welcome to leave the lid open for your entire float. There's no right or wrong way to float.

Do I need to know how to swim?

No. The high concentration of Epsom salt makes the water extremely buoyant, allowing your body to float effortlessly.

You don't need to swim or try to keep yourself afloat.

Do I wear bathers in the float pod?

Your float room is completely private, so what you wear is entirely your choice.

Most people choose to float without bathers as this can be the most comfortable experience, but you're more than welcome to wear swimwear if you prefer.

What do I need to bring?

Very little — we've got the essentials covered.

We provide bath robes, towels, private shower facilities, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and water.

If you're using our sauna or ice bath, please bring your swimwear.

Do I shower before and after my float?

Yes. We ask all guests to shower before entering the float pod to remove makeup, deodorant, oils and other products.

You'll also shower afterwards to rinse the Epsom salt from your skin and hair.

Should I shave or wax before my float?

We recommend avoiding shaving or waxing on the day of your float.

The salty water can sting freshly shaved, waxed or irritated skin, so it's much more comfortable to do this at least the day before.

Can I float with freshly dyed hair?

Please wait until your hair colour has completely stopped running when washed before booking a float.

Fresh or vibrant hair colour may transfer into the float water, and the salt water may also affect your colour.

If you're unsure, please contact us before your appointment.

What about fake tan?

Please avoid floating with a freshly applied fake tan or while your tan is still transferring.

We recommend waiting until your tan has fully developed and is no longer washing off or transferring onto towels or clothing.

Can I float if I have cuts or grazes?

Epsom salt can sting broken or irritated skin.

If you have significant cuts, open wounds or irritated skin, we recommend waiting until they have healed before floating.

How long should my first float be?

A 60-minute float is a great place to start.

It can take a little time for your mind and body to settle during your first experience, so don't worry if you don't completely switch off straight away.

Once you're familiar with floating, you may find that a longer 90-minute session gives you even more time to unwind.

Can I fall asleep while floating?

Some people do become so relaxed that they drift off during their float.

Because of the buoyancy created by the Epsom salt, your body remains supported while you float.

Can I float while pregnant?

Many people are interested in floating during pregnancy because of the feeling of weightlessness and relief from carrying additional body weight.

Every pregnancy is different, so we recommend speaking with your doctor, midwife or maternity healthcare provider before booking, particularly if you have any pregnancy complications or concerns.

How old do I need to be to float?

Guests must be 16 years or older to use our float pods.

Guests aged 16–17 will require consent from a parent or legal guardian.

SAUNA & ICE BATH

I've never used a sauna or ice bath before. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Beginners are very welcome.

Our team will explain how everything works before your session, so there's no need to have any previous experience.

Do I need to wear swimwear?

Yes. Our sauna and ice bath facilities are located in a shared area, so swimwear must be worn.

How long should I stay in the ice bath?

There's no prize for staying in the longest!

Cold tolerance varies from person to person, particularly when you're new to cold-water immersion. Start gradually, listen to your body and exit the ice bath whenever you need to.

Our team can explain the process before your first session.

Can I use the sauna and ice bath together?

Yes. Our sauna and ice bath experience allows you to incorporate both heat and cold into your session.

If it's your first time, we'll explain how to get started and you can take the experience at your own pace.

How old do I need to be to use the sauna and ice bath?

Guests must be 16 years or older to use our sauna and ice bath facilities.

Guests aged 16–17 will require consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Can I use the sauna or ice bath while pregnant?

Pregnancy changes how your body responds to heat and cold.

We recommend speaking with your doctor, midwife or maternity healthcare provider before using sauna or cold-water immersion during pregnancy.

What if I have a medical condition?

If you have a medical condition, take prescription medication, are pregnant or have any concerns about whether float therapy, sauna or cold-water immersion is suitable for you, please speak with your healthcare professional before booking.

YOUR VISIT

How early should I arrive?

For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your appointment. This gives us plenty of time to welcome you, get you settled and explain everything without cutting into your session.

For future visits, arriving a few minutes early is perfect.

What happens if I'm late?

We understand that sometimes things happen.

If you arrive late, we may need to shorten your session so we don't delay the next guest. The full session price will still apply.

Should I eat before my appointment?

You don't need to fast.

We recommend avoiding a large or heavy meal immediately before your session. A light meal beforehand is usually the most comfortable option.

Can I have alcohol before my appointment?

For your safety, please don't arrive under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Guests who appear to be under the influence will not be able to use our float pods, sauna or ice bath facilities.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that plans can change.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours' notice.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment may incur a 50% cancellation fee. No-shows may be charged 100% of the booked service or forfeit the session if using a prepaid pass or package.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes! Stillwater gift vouchers are available and are a beautiful way to give someone the gift of time to slow down, reset and recharge.

Do you offer memberships or multi-session passes?

Yes. We offer multi-session passes and membership options for those who would like to make floating part of their regular routine.

Please see our pricing and packages or speak with our team to find the option that suits you best.
